This is the closest-to-home burn this fire season. Dev’s the information guy (I guess that’s probably not his official title) for this fire and has been spending every day of the week from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (at least) at the base of mountain giving out information. It makes for very long days since he is going all the way to Ronan before and after those times to check in and out of work, but I guess it might be better than actually working on a fire line somewhere. Now they even brought him his own little port-a-potty, and today Polson Ambulance was hanging out there, too, since there are crews up working on the lines some machinery made earlier. And, he really enjoys explaining to people over and over again why there aren’t a lot of crews up on the cliffs trying to put out the fire, especially when its the same people who come by every day and ask the same questions. Maybe he at least gets to meet some interesting people. The group of guys he was talking to when I left today was trying to buy one of his maps for ten dollars.
