This is an overview of part of the city of Belgrade. Belgrade was the capitol of the former Yugoslavia and is the capitol of Serbia today. The population is around 2 or 3 million, depending on how many of the “displaced persons” you count. No one seemed to know exactly how many people there are because there are a lot of refugees from other parts of the region who are living in Belgrade.

This is the city I was in about half the time there.

A typical city street in Belgrade--this is the one my hotel was on.

This is the former headquarters --or at least an important building-- of the Serbian army. It was bombed by NATO in 1998. I took this photo standing at the U.S. Embassay accross the street.

This is me with Marijana in the shopping/ pedestrian area in Belgrade. Marijana is in charge of the program in Serbia and was my tour guide while in Belgrade.

Kalemegdan Fortress, Belgrade

Roma children in Belgrade. There were Roma throughout the city doing all sorts of fringe jobs/work like this-- performing for money (music or dancing or both) pushing carts around collecting cardboard…
