First Snow

November 18, 2007

When we finally got a little snow the kids couldn’t resist. It started falling late in the afternoon so there wasn’t much time to get outside before it got dark. Still, they were all ready to sled and build snowmen before there was any snow even sticking around on the ground.

By the evening there was a little layer of snow covering the ground, so they all made the best use of it. We dug the sleds out of the shed and they all sledded down the hill from the canal. Really, affter one person went down the hill that was the end of the snow in that path and all those that came next really slid down a mud path. Still, it was exciting because they’ve all bee “sledding” down that hill all summer and fall (sleds still do a fair job heading down long grass) so even mud was faster.

By the next morning when everyone got up for school the snow was deep and covering everything--much better sledding conditions.

It still wasn’t too cold outside, so those of us who didn’t have to go to school on Monday spent quite a few hours outside.
