You’ll notice each family member has their own category link to the left.  All post will still show up on the main page but your individual family page will only display posts that deal with your individual family.  You’ll have to choose a category when you post if you want that post to show up in any category.  (For events involving multiple families you can post in multiple categories simultaneously by holding the control button down during multiple mouse clicks.
