The best thing ever was that she was my grandma
and she gave me all the memories of her:

She’d push me around her yard in my little wagon
and when I got peanut butter in my hair
she knew just how to get it out.
She always picked me up from headstart
and then kindergarten
and we’d go to Club or the senior center
or just to her house.
Then sometimes we’d go for a walk
or sit in her swing and talk
or maybe take a nap.
When I got hungry
she always made me noodles and had apple juice to drink.
When we were done we’d give Nikki a bath
or look through her button collection
or just watch TV--
maybe even cartoons.

On special days I’d stay all night
and if I couldn’t sleep
I’d climb in bed with her
and she’d tell me a story about a boy and his horse.
It was only a couple words
but it was a really good story
and the boy and his horse always found their way home.
And I bet they felt as good as I did by Nana
who was always there to help me
and play with me
and who always, always
loved me.

Isreal and I worked on writing poems about Grandma yesterday. He thinks and composes much more quickly than I do. Mine is till in progress, but he says he’s done with his so we thought we’d share it.
