It was quite a trip.  We arrived Thursday evening and spent all day Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday exploring Manhattan.  It was great fun, complete with a carriage ride through Central Park, a trip to the top of the Empire State Building, an incredible Times Square View Room, and breastfeeding on some steps across the street from Sak’s, much to the chagrin of some passing strangers who gave me dirty looks. We arrived at Penn Station at 6pm on Thursday night, and trying to make it out of the insanely busy/packed subway station as everyone rushed to catch their trains home, I nearly had a panic attack, but once I caught my breath we had a great time.  Dylan’s favorite part of the trip was, hands down, the cab rides. I prefer them to the busy subway myself.

This is our hotel from the outside, and the views from the sitting room and bedroom, respectively, of our suite.

This is the street in Little Italy where we had dinner (the best meal of the trip).  I much prefer this area of the city (Little Italy, SoHo, Chelsea, etc) to Midtown. The buildings are actually short enough that you can see the sky and it isn’t nearly so busy.  Dylan caught a quick after-dinner nap while Doug and I enjoyed some magnificent canolis.

This is very cool--its the 5th Ave Apple Store. The entrance is a giant glass cube, and the whole thing is below street level. The second picture is taken looking straight up out of the elevator.

And here we have the opposite of sleek and classy--the lobby of Trump Tower. Talk about overdone.

Doug and Dylan take in some hockey practice at the Chelsea Piers rink. Chelsea Piers is pretty cool.  A development team took the old piers and renovated them, turning them into a huge sports complex (indoor basketball, soccer, gymnastics, skating rinks, driving range, batting cages, the works). One of the projects that Doug has been working on in Lindsay, the McDermont Field House, is based on this idea.
