Baby Clark #3

We found out yesterday that we are having another girl.  Keilana liked the ultrasound, and thinks we should name her little sister Strawberry Shortcake.  I think we’re going to go with Kylie instead.  I think.  We’ll see what I think when she actually arrives in 4 months or so.  But she looks good--all the right number of appendages and measuring a teensy bit big. Ok, apparently the profile shot doesn’t want to load. I’ll try and figure out what’s wrong with it.  But its on my blog if you want to see it.

This is her face straight on.  We think she was asleep during the ultrasound--none of the prodding bothered her anyway.

Here is her arm and hand (I like that they just put little directly on these while they’re doing it now).

What’s been eating Valerie’s peas?

One of the mysteries around here this summer has been “what’s eating the peas” in the garden?

She came in through Michael’s new arbor, leaving no footprints in the dirt. She also like beans. Doesn’t seem interested in lettuce, though.

Hiking (kid-style) at Mission Dam

June 26, 2008
The kids were pretty excited for the hike. We had water bottles and snacks and lunch. After about 15 minutes of walking and admiring the scenery the kids were ready to enjoy it all at the nice picnic spot a little ways up the trail.

After the hike everyone went swimming at the Dam. Keilana and Dylan are both little fish. They liked the “big swimming pool” and didn’t seem to notice if the water in Montana wasn’t quite as warm as the pools in California.

Grandma’s Party

June 24, 2008

Well it wasn’t quite time for a birthday party, but we had a big chunk of Grandma’s family here for an eightieth birthday celebration anyway-- just a three months early.

Keilana’s 4th Birthday.

Keilana turned 4 on Wednesday, but we didn’t end up celebrating til Saturday.  So, even though everyone kept wishing her a happy birthday all week, she told them that she wasn’t 4 until she opened presents.

This is really how Keilana views herself.  And being the only female grandchild on this side of the family, I’m afraid it gets reinforced a little too often.

She was pretty happy with her present haul.  After we got home, she said to me, at least a half a dozen times, “Thank you for my cake and presents, Mommy”.

Blowing out her candles on her Princess Castle cake

Splashing in Grandma’s pool as she sings, “Sha-la-la-la-la my oh my and don’t be shy come on and KISSSS the girl!”

Dylan was rather annoyed when Rachel interrupted his swimming to tickle him, and he let he know it.

Keilana was particularly excited about the Waterpillar that Christa sent.  She’s been begging me to get it out all morning, but I told her that it’s only 75* right now but if she waits til lunchtime, it’ll be well into the 90s!

Paisley is Two!

Paisley celebrated her second birthday on Thursday evening.

Gwen made a fancy bumble bee cake.

Of course there was the pinata, which all the kids (except Paisley) enjoyed hitting.

Kindergarten End-of-the-year Ice Cream Party

June 2, 2008

Azia & Jenna’s kindergarten class (Ms. Dean) celebrated the end of the year by inviting their families into their classroom. They sang some of their favorite songs from the year and then read their parents some of their pieces from their portfolios. Afterwards we had ice cream in the gym and each of the students got to bring home one of the books the class wrote together throughout the course of the year.

More Memorial Day Pictures

Well, my pictures aren’t nearly as cool as Dad’s HDR ones, but my camera is still fairly clean so I don’t have a good excuse to buy a fancy new one.

We went Sunday afternoon to decorate graves--though there weren’t many flowers out. We had a few lilacs and apple blossoms and the little plants Mom bought. The kids were interested in figuring out were everything needed to go.

The weather for the Bison Range breakfast was the nicest in recent years...and there were tons of flowers up on the hill. As always, Azia was dressed with what she felt was appropriate for the occasion.

Gage liked hiding in the flowers.

Lettie enjoyed examining them

Memorial Day at the Bison Range

This year the weather was pleasant for our annual trip to the top of the Bison Range.

Ahni’s birthday, Saturday

This was the first outside meal this year. Lots of people. A new trampoline. Good food.

Ahni and Lettie spend some quality time before the festivities start.

This is about half the crowd. Click the photo for a larger view.

Ahni knows how to open presents. She was excited by everything!

Lettie’s pretty good with the bubbles. So is Zoran.

The new trampoline was the favorite place for the school age kids (and Skippy).

Pretty woman. . .

Another Example of Why Azia & Jenna Shouldn’t Be Allowed Makeup

They were both very excited about their bright lipstick and had it applied before we even got everything in the car. They were looking beautiful before we even started home.

At some point on the ride home they must have thought the effect wasn’t dramatic enough. Dev looked in the rearview mirror about Arlee and this is what he saw.

Neither of the girls was too happy about having to turn over the lipstick.

T-Ball… finally, a game

May 6, 2008
After some scheduling confusion, lost registration forms, and a few rain delays, Azia, Jenna, and Daij finally played their first T-ball Game against Ronan on Tuesday.

Azia was sporadically excited about the game. She paid attention most of the time she was actually playing, but she was more interested in fixing her hair so it would look good in her hat and picking out the right color socks than she was in warming up. She caught on how an actual game worked by the end (for the most part anyway), but I don’t think anyone ever explained the concept of base running before her first time at bat. After she hit the ball it didn’t occur to her to run. She just wanted them to keep putting the ball on the tee so she could hit a few more times. Once I yelled at her to run she just kept going, passed first, rounded second (and her teammate standing there), and continued on to third before she heard me yelling at her to come back. (I don’t think anyone else even noticed. They were already on to the next batter.) She went back to first, but when it was time to run after the next hit, instead of heading for second base she just ran to some random spot between first and second and stopped to wait for the next batter.

Luckily, by her second at bat she had it nearly figured out.

Jenna had exactly the same batting and base running approach as Azia. She also continued all the way to third (passing her other teammates) after hitting the ball. And then she also stopped at the very same random spot between first and second, too. Like Azia she thought reading the books I had with me was a more interesting activity than sitting on the bench when she wasn’t playing.

She did some good fielding when the ball came to her. And she also practiced some dance moves when there wasn’t any action out her direction.

Daij is pretty much the team stud. He did about 70% of the fielding for the team.  He is the fastest to get to wherever the ball is hit and he is one of the only ones that can throw far enough to get it back towards home from the field. He also is the team power hitter. He bats last. Since the whole team bats every inning in t-ball, if you bat last it means you hit a homerun or you don’t get to score. So he just hit homeruns. The field picture is him running the bases (and catching his teammates) as everyone on the Ronan team chases the ball (that he just hit over their heads) down the hill .

Isaac was most interested in the snacks for most of the game, though he did head out to third base to help Hunter during one of the innings.
