Copy editing guidelines
Expectations for writingThese are the “fatal” mistakes. Papers with these errors will not receive a grade:
1. Misspelled words
2. Sentences that begin without capitals
3. “I” not capitalized
4. Use of text-messaging abbreviations, such as “u” for “you”
5. Sentence fragments
6. Run-on sentences (with “comma splices")
Papers with these errors cannot receive a grade higher than “C”:
1. Subject-verb agreement errors
2. Pronoun-antecedent agreement errors
